We circulated a flyer and received a few responses from people in Austin. We explained that there was no compensation other than room and board and the chance to learn Spanish. We knew it was asking a lot, but it was something that we might've considered in our younger days.

We got a call from a young woman who we'll call Abi Brown. And being from England, could she speak English! She had spent the summer in Austin and was awaiting either a visa extension or a date for a hearing when it may be determined she would be sent back to England. She already spoke French and German and thought that six weeks spent in Mexico might be an interesting experience. ... next page
