most of you I am sure we have all seen the pictures of the horrible destruction
along the Gulf Coast. I am certain all of us send out our prayers and thoughts
to so many who have lost so much in this terrible tragedy. While we can send money
and other items as are requested by the various charities, none of this will replace
what these people have lost. Estimates concerning repairs are meaningless at this
point since no one really knows how long it will take to replace and repair the
basic services such as water, electricity and sewage.
I find it difficult
to imagine having a business that is under fifteen or twenty feet of water and
knowing that you cannot even start to make repairs for at least six to eight weeks.
This is stress of the highest order. I hope and pray none of us would ever have
to deal with anything such as this.
The blame game and the finger pointing
has already begun. Politicians are lining up to proclaim their vast reservoir
of knowledge on how this calamity could have been prevented or marginalized. I
find this disgusting at a time such as this.
Anyone with half a brain
can see that this is a tragedy that could not have been prevented, perhaps they
could have been better prepared, but who can predict Mother Nature?
The
residents of this part of our country need help, not pontification by a bunch
of career politicians whose only desire it is to get reelected. This is the time
for every one of us to lay our differences aside and do what we can do to help.
There are a number of agencies that are begging for our assistance in any way,
shape or form. Look in your paper, watch the news or get on the internet and you
can find a multiplicity of ways to help out. This is not going to be a short time
deal. This is a long-term effort. Every one can have a chance to participate.
I am disturbed by the pictures I see of the looting in the streets of New Orleans.
I don’t think this is a good representation of the majority of the citizens of
that fair city. I can’t imagine what is going on in their heads, but they have
to live with themselves, not me. My heart goes out to those who are stranded in
shelters across the south with no jobs, no money and no place to go back home
to.
Since I am in the middle of remodeling our house, we are living in
our guest house with no cable TV, just basic stuff. Perhaps I’ve missed it but
I’ve yet to see any other country in the world jumping in to offer us any aid.
It must have been announced, and I just overlooked it. I’m certain all those countries
who criticized us last year when the tsunami hit have been rushing over here with
aid and supplies. I bet ships from France and Germany are already rushing full
steam ahead to pitch in and help us. Yeah, right.
As always, we are a day
late and a dollar short. We give more and get less than any other country in the
world. You mark my words and see how much assistance we get from any other country
on this planet. Truth to tell I’d bet some folks in those areas are actually gleeful
and happy that we are having this problem. They just don’t like us and we keep
trying to make them our friends. When will we ever learn?
But, you know
American shine in the middle of crisis and even though the clouds are dark and
gloomy, there is a hope of sunshine and we will prevail and survive. We always
have and we always will.
In spite of the nay sayers and posturing of our
politicians.
Thanks, be grateful and thankful if you do not have to endure
this situation. God bless these folks. | | |
