Austin Mystery Cafe
Austin, Texas

Texas Forum - Subject: Cafe

Couple in front of Butlers Shoe Store

I have attached a picture that was taken in the summer of 1955 of my fiance Durway Jaynes and myself. We were leaving his place of employment at Butler's Shoe Store on Austin Ave.

I am trying to recall the name of the cafe that was located across the street and on the corner in the same block. That was where we shared our first cup of coffee and shared many more for 30 years until his untimely death in 1986. Can you help me? - With many thanks, Ginger Jaynes Swearengin, August 22, 2006

Forum:

My husband, a long-time Austinite thinks the café in question may be the Austin hotel Coffee Shop on the NE corner of 7th and Congress. Butler’s Shoes was on Congress Ave not Austin Ave. - Jeanell Bolton, March 11, 2012

Austin, TX Congress Ave.
Congress Avenure , looking North from 8th Street, Austin, Texas.
