History in
a Pecan Shell
Bagby got started
in 1895 when the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway railroad arrived
and their post office opened (closed in 1904.)
In 1900 there were two gins in Bagby – one of which is shown above.
A store and sawmill rounded out the commercial interests of the town
and they also had a church and school.
Wartime decisions forced railroad service to end in 1944, but according
to the Handbook of Texas Online, Bagby continues to have a
school for area children. |
