History
in a Pecan Shell
Organized in 1848, the community is thought to be named after local
resident Henry Creagle. The town had a church and cemetery as early
as 1890 and a school with an enrollment of 61 in 1904.
Creagleville managed to live through the 1930s when it was reported
they had the school, a church, two cemeteries, and several dwellings.
No mention was made of businesses.
The school consolidated with the Grand
Saline ISD in the 1950s. Today only the cemeteries are shown on
TXDoT county maps of Van
Zandt County. |
