History
on a Pinhead
Settled with the birth of the 20th Century, no one is sure exactly
which year. In fact, Deer Creek was hardly noticed at all. It wasn’t
until the 1930s when anyone bothered to count the residents – which
numbered fewer than ten people.
The population peaked in the 1940s when it swelled to twenty-five
people (estimated). It did maintain a store and two churches as well
as a school. In the mid 1960s the town had declined to the point where
no one counted the populace any longer. Today only the weathered boards
of the undistinguishable structures indicate the presence of a community. |
A Visit to
Deer Creek

Note:
Kept running across road signs pointing to Deer Creek, so I checked
out the map and took a detour. All I found along several miles of
road was a few houses/ranches, the remains of several old buildings,
and the cemetery. The picture shows about half of the graves in it.
