Timeline of Duncanville's History

1845: Settlement begins when Crawford Trees arrives from Illinois and buys thousands of acres south of Camp Dallas.
1855: Mr. Trees donates land for the Little Bethel Male and Female School.
1880: the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railway reached the area and built Duncan Switch, named for a line foreman.
1882: The town's postmaster applies for a post office under the name Duncanville in 1882.
1883: The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe acquires the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Railroad, connects the town by telegraph.
1884: Most of Duncanville's business district burns.
1904: Population is still a mere 113 people but increases to 300 by 1933.
1947: Under threat of annexation by Dallas, Duncanville incorporates.
1962: Population reaches 5,000.
1970: Population is 13,000.
1988: Population exceeds 31,000.
1991: Population reaches 35,761
