History in
a Pecan shell
Eureka began with
a simple primitive school. Settlement was prior to the Civil War.
A post office was applied for in 1870 under the name of Eureka. It
was opened in a private residence and before long a community formed
nearby.
By 1885 the population was a mere 25 but the town had several cotton
and grist mills and by 1914 it had grown to 100 residents. That figure
was used through the 1960s when it had grown to 125.
Eureka is known known as a “ dispersed rural community.” |
