History in a Pecan Shell

Mars Community, which faded into oblivion sometime after 1945, was named for John and Henry Marrs. Somewhere along the way, the second r was dropped.

Originally, in Henderson County, Mars produced cotton, fruit and nursery stock. It peaked around 1915 with a population of 100. By 1931 it had fallen to a mere 10 but mysteriously rebounded to 83 in 1933.

The final count was in 1945 when Mars had 50 residents. A church remained in the late 1980s.
