History in
a Pecan Shell
It's hard to imagine
this busy intersection as once being a dairy and nursery center, but
indeed, it was. Originally the site was granted to one J. Tilley.
In the mid 1890s, Oasis had a general store. Although early figures
aren't available, there were enough people there to create the need
for a cemetery which was in use by 1900.
Several dairies were in operation in the same time frame, but with
the land taken up for grazing herds, the human population stayed lean.
The population of Oasis was estimated as twenty in 1949, and continued
to be reported at that level through the mid-1960s. The community
was later annexed by Dallas.
