History on
a Pinhead
This Palestine,
Texas was settled sometime before 1900 and bears little resemblance
to the larger Palestine
in Anderson County.
The community (what there was of it) suffered from the postwar search
for better paying jobs and over the years even the most die-hard residents
fled, leaving the cemetery and little else. |
Photographer's Note:
"Handbook Online says the Lamar County Palestine was on FM 906.
My old map shows it was on FM2648 which TxDot confirms with this road
sign to that effect.
I could find no remains of the old church which my map shows was near
CR44190, where a house now resides.
The old, familiar, sad Martin 404 airliner still sits at the former
Flying Tiger Airport beside US82 along with several other small planes
in various stages of decay." - Barclay
