History in
a Pecan Shell
Named after a huge
tree that grew in or near the town’s main street, Postoak developed
in the late 1870s. It acquired a post office in that decade and the
town had most essential businesses by the 1880s. The community enjoyed
a peaceful history without any disasters, feuds or calamities. The
population has been consistent from the 30s through the 70s – just
above 100 residents. It declined in 80s – reaching 79 for the 1990
Census – the same number reported for the year 2000. |
A Visit to
Postoak, Texas
Photographer's
Note:
Postoak Texas - Appears to have once supported a small business
district. Certainly more than any of the many small 'towns' I visited
today, at least more of the buildings are still there. The small white
building appears that it might have been a church at one time. - Mike
