History in
a Pecan Shell
Located seven miles
southeast of Denton on U.
S. Highway 77 near Lewisville Lake. During the 1920s, Dallas contractor
John William Franck started building a fishing camp in the northern
section of Lake Dallas to develop a weekend retreat. As the area grew,
other camps were erected, but many later got replaced by houses. In
1932, construction started on a subdivision called Shady Shores as
a result of the area's growth. The community decided to incorporate
as a town in October 1960 to prevent Denton
from annexing the area.
