History
in a Pecan Shell
Named for an early settler, the town came into being in the early
1880s. The railroad arrived sometime in the 1890s and the post office
was granted in 1900 and closed four years later.
Bateman only had two businesses, and a population of fifty through
the 1930s. It remained at that level for years - finally reaching
a point where no one seemed to care. |
