1860: The Houston and Texas Central Railway built through the
area
1871: The site was chosen as the location for the proposed
Texas A&M College
1876: Texas A & M opened it's doors
1877: The post office is named College Station
1883: The depot is completed
1884: The population reaches 350
1910: Electric Interurban service is established between College
Station and Bryan (discontinued
in 1923)
1938: College Station is incorporated
1940: Population reaches 2,184 inhabitants (not including students)
1942: Ernest Langford, the "Father of College Station"
was elected mayor, serving for twenty-six years.
1950: Population reaches 7,898 inhabitants, including students.
