History
on a Pinhead
Settled late (in the 1880s), the nucleus of the town was the Pine
Island Baptist Church. The community’s first school opened in 1893.
The community’s proximity to Hempstead
and Waller curbed its growth and by
1979 the town’s population was a mere 200. After incorporation (1980)
the population doubled and by the 2000 census it had redoubled to
reach 849 residents. |
