History
in a Pecan Shell
Named for nearby Salty Creek, the community dates back
to the 1860s. It was granted a post office in 1894 which was discontinued
in 1909.
Population figures for Salty are not available, but at one time it
was a voting precinct for Milam
County residents living in that part of the county.
Salty schools were merged with those in Thorndale
just after WWII.
A church community hall and cemetery were in place as late as the
1980s. |
