History in
a Pecan Shell
Information
on settlement is hard to come by but the community had a post office
in the 1880s. In 1890 one J. M. Bockius, a local rancher also served
as postmaster. I896 seems to have been the peak of Sedan's existance
with 300 people calling it home and three doctors. But by 1909, the
community lost its post office and people started drifting away to
other communities - primarily Gonzales
and the nearer town of Yorktown.
By the time the Great Depression hit, Sedan had already been dropped
from maps. |
