"Voice
of East Texas" from Palestine, Texas

(in
her own words) I am the product of a mixed marriage -- between a Yankee
and a Texan. I was born in Washington, DC, and when I was five years old, my family
packed up and headed toward California. A stop-off in East
Texas to visit Mama's family somehow never ended. I have long been thankful.
I grew up in Palestine,
and graduated from UT Austin. I have lived in Beaumont, Canyon Lake, San Antonio,
San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Pasadena, Texas. I served one short term in Tucson,
Arizona, all the time wanting to return to Texas, the Promised Land.
I have taught public high school - nevermore!! In 1995, I began writing
inspirational articles for teens' and women's magazines and, as I gained confidence,
for a general adult audience. I have eased on into travel and history pieces.
My writing is meant to enlighten the mind, touch the imagination, or edify the
heart of the reader. My absolute favorite subject to write about is
people. Since junior high school when I read bios on everybody from Joan of Arc
to Henry Clay, biographies have been my favorite area of the library. However,
"ordinary" people are just as fascinating as the Famous. Everyone has a story
to tell, and one of these days, who knows, everyone may have a web page with a
personal history on it. I will be standing in line to write biographies for anyone
who needs me. | | |
