1955 when Jeanne Moseley was about to start first grade, her family relocated
to Waxahachie from Little Rock, Arkansas. Other than a few years here and there,
she's been a permanent resident of that small Texas town. Career pursuits
over the past 25 years meant spending most of her daylight hours in the "big city",
but at night, she'd always come home to the tree-lined, historic streets of Waxahachie
to enjoy the company of her family and friends. Her parents built Waxahachie's
only radio station in 1955, this remains her family business where Jeanne now
airs a weekly program, "People & Places of Ellis County." It was her
upbringing in a small Texas town that provides Jeanne most of her story ideas.
Now, after a 25-year career, she's spending more time among her neighbors.

Moseley's Waxahachie Jeanne Moseley is very fond of Waxahachie and
Ellis County and she doesn't care who knows it. She would state it differently,
of course, but it amounts to the same thing. Our travels around Texas have introduced
us to people with very strong attachments to where they were born or raised. Although
this fondness of region is sometimes dismissed as being simply a love of the familiar,
we've found that there is a higher plateau - that of someone who has left and
has returned to more fully appreciate the hometown. Jeanne never really left,
except for time spent in Hawaii. While others simply commute to the big cities,
we get the feeling from her writing that for Jeanne each day she left for work
in Dallas was a separation and return. Finding a person who loves their
region isn't all that hard. Finding someone who can write about his or her hometown/
region isn't all that easy. Fortunately, for all of us, Jeanne Moseley found us
(TE) and recognized our desire to share Texas. Her stories can be enjoyed whether
or not you've visited Waxahachie, but we're sure they will provide a strong temptation
to visit. It's a genuine pleasure for us to include Jeanne's descriptions and
observations of Waxahachie and Ellis County on Texas Escapes. - Editor |
