Table of Contents
  • A Town with Star Quality
"On several occasions, our little town has been used to film movies and commercials. And while you would think we'd become accustomed to all the hoopla that accompanies such activity, well, we don't."

  • One If By Land, Two If By Sea
" When watching Saturday afternoon movies back in the 1950s, it was easy enough to tell the difference between good and evil. ..... But today, without clear understanding, I join my country as we struggle to define the enemy.
  • We Will All Pull Through
"Basically, we're like a wounded family who just lost a loved one and our patience with each other's shortcomings seems boundless. "Hurry up" has been replaced by "Take your time" and long-lost friends are calling just to say "Hello." ..."
  • Back Home in It-lee, Texas, USA
"His career in radio broadcasting took him to Dallas, Louisville, Providence, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York and then back to Los Angeles, where he became well known as a premier broadcaster. As a young boy on Italy's Ward Street, his favorite pastime was listening to Gene Autry's radio show..."
  • Days of Paradise
"Cleaning out a closet in my parents' home, I found an old, rusted green trunk. It's not worth anything and isn't of any use, but as I opened it and looked inside, I found more than my share of wonderful memories."
  • Saturday Night on the Avenue
  • Postcard from Home - Bluebonnets in Ellis County
  • Small Town Tidbits: A Friend Indeed
"What prompted me to write this little story was something that happened yesterday ..... Figured that's something that doesn't happen much in the big city."

  • Spinning Poodle Skirt
"If it hadn't been for the Optimist Club, growing up in Ellis County wouldn't have been much fun at all."
  • Mr. Chick
In the Arkansas rice country, to be known as Mr. Chick's granddaughter said it all. I wore the identity like a royal robe.
  • Gentle Justice
    "
He's a sophisticated cowboy with a flair created by Neiman Marcus and his white Stetson is always part of his attire.
He's known by the name "Gentle Justice", which he earned during the 20 years he served as sheriff."

In 1955 when Jeanne Moseley was about to start first grade, her family relocated to Waxahachie from Little Rock, Arkansas. Other than a few years here and there, she's been a permanent resident of that small Texas town.

Career pursuits over the past 25 years meant spending most of her daylight hours in the "big city", but at night, she'd always come home to the tree-lined, historic streets of Waxahachie to enjoy the company of her family and friends.

Her parents built Waxahachie's only radio station in 1955, this remains her family business where Jeanne now airs a weekly program, "People & Places of Ellis County."

It was her upbringing in a small Texas town that provides Jeanne most of her story ideas. Now, after a 25-year career, she's spending more time among her neighbors.

    Jeanne Moseley's Waxahachie

Jeanne Moseley is very fond of Waxahachie and Ellis County and she doesn't care who knows it. She would state it differently, of course, but it amounts to the same thing. Our travels around Texas have introduced us to people with very strong attachments to where they were born or raised. Although this fondness of region is sometimes dismissed as being simply a love of the familiar, we've found that there is a higher plateau - that of someone who has left and has returned to more fully appreciate the hometown. Jeanne never really left, except for time spent in Hawaii. While others simply commute to the big cities, we get the feeling from her writing that for Jeanne each day she left for work in Dallas was a separation and return.

Finding a person who loves their region isn't all that hard. Finding someone who can write about his or her hometown/ region isn't all that easy. Fortunately, for all of us, Jeanne Moseley found us (TE) and recognized our desire to share Texas. Her stories can be enjoyed whether or not you've visited Waxahachie, but we're sure they will provide a strong temptation to visit. It's a genuine pleasure for us to include Jeanne's descriptions and observations of Waxahachie and Ellis County on Texas Escapes. - Editor
