STOPITO or MINISTOPS
Roadside parks, picnic areas and wide spot in the road
that offer more than just a place to change your oil.

ROADSIDE PARK - OLD MILL CREEK

10 Miles West of Brenham
on Hwy 290 (north side)
Old Mill Creek near Brenham, Texas

This Stopito is a delight anytime of year, but especially in Spring and anytime immediately after a rain.  Dense shade from old live oaks, and its proximity to the bridge on Mill Creek make it very easy to miss.

During the summer small fish (very small) are stranded in pools when the water stops flowing, along with tadpoles and crawdads.  If you happen to visit, throw a few crumbs of bread in the water to witness a feeding frenzy resembling special effects from a movie.

Access to 290 to Austin is easy, but be careful if you are going East toward Brenham.

Be advised that during a dry spell, the creek may be bone-dry.  There are only three picnic tables, which adds to the park's intimacy. It's a perfect solution for the "are we there yet?" question.  It's also a great rest stop for pets.  It's romantic if you're travelling with "that special someone", and it's even romantic for those of you who travel alone and always have "that special someone" with you.
