History in
a Pecan Shell
Eylau was a very
early settlement under the Republic
of Texas. It was established by a man named Collin Akin soon after
the Battle
of San Jacinto.
The tiny community managed to obtain a post office in 1885 which kept
its doors open for ten years.
The only population figures are from the 1890 census when an estimated
thirty residents called it home. It's proximity to Texarkana
prevented growth and by the end of the Great Depression, Eylau had
disappeared as a stand-alone community. |
