History in
a Pecan Shell
The town was named
to honor early settler Joe Holcomb, who had arrived in the mid 1840s.
It is assumed that Holcomb operated a mill, for it was once known
as Holcomb's Mill. A school was built sometime before 1900.
During the Great Depression Holcomb's Store had a church, school,
store and several residences.
Today Holcomb Store is remembered on county maps, although only a
church and widely-scattered houses remain. |
