History in
a Pecan Shell
Although the namesake
of Huber has been forgotten, it received a post office in the mid
1880s. The community had the three essential business for a town (gristmill,
sawmill and cotton gin) but the population was a mere 25 in the mid
1890s.
The post office closed its doors in 1905 but the people managed to
support several businesses throughout the following decades. About
the only evidence of the community’s early days is to be found in
the headstones of the local cemetery. |
