History
in a Pecan Shell
Settled in the 1890s, Huxley had its own post office from 1903 to
1905 (although it appears on the 1907 postal map). Little early
history is available, but the population stood at 50 at the close
of WWII.
The construction of Toledo
Bend Reservoir in the 1960s helped repopulate the area and by
1970 it had rebounded to 302, reaching a high of 335 by 1990.
The town has operated several marinas over the years and the population
now includes former residents of smaller area towns,
including Paul's Store.
