History in a Pecan Shell

The town, like many Cherokee County towns, appeared before the Civil War but development didn't really get started until the railroad arrived in the early 1870s. In this case the railroad was the International and Great Northern who built a depot here in 1875.

The Tecula Post Office Saga

In 1873 a post office was granted under the name Reynolds but closed two years later. It reopened in 1900, closed again in 1907, reopened in 1917 (under the name Tecula) and closed again in 1926. The post office may have closed, but the town didn't reclaim the name Reynolds and Tecula it remained.

The population was a mere 25 during the great Depression, and it has since declined to where only a few houses and a church remain to mark the town.
