History in
a Pecan Shell
Zana
was granted a post office in 1886, and by 1896 there were fifty people
calling the community home. The town had a general store and a sawmill
in 1914, but by 1916, the post office closed.
By the 1930s only a few people remained and the town was dropped from
maps. When Sam Rayburn Reservoir was constructed in the 1960s, Zana
became one of Texas' submerged ghost towns. |
