Almost
everyone who has lived there has had a love-hate relationship with
Houston. The city has always had a
habit of building new even before the sheen of the recently-built
had time to dull. These photos of what was once called "Space City"
is our latest in a series of photo essays of Texas' larger cities
by photographers who are intimate with their surroundings. Houston
photographer and preservationist Lauren Meyers has taken the time
to submit these these images of her city so that we might share them
with our readers. - Editor |

Note:
"I
think that Houston encompasses the best and worst of most things.
It is large enough to be home to a very diverse population and culture,
and is also home to great educational, arts, museums and parks. Houston
also has a relatively short history, which is unfortunately becoming
increasingly paved over (literally!) as time goes by. I only hope
that with the progress of the new, the old can be preserved and appreciated
as well." - Lauren
