Here
we present a handful of these handsome and mostly simple buildings
- all found on a single loop not far from the Kansas/ Oklahoma State
Line. The trip originates in Coffeyville and heads west through Elk
City, Moline, Grenola, and Burden, ending in Wellington and then down
to Arkansas City, and back to Coffeyville via Sedan, and Cedar Vale.

Situated
on a high bluff overlooking a crossroad - this school (although brick
instead of wood) is nearly a dead-ringer for Grant Wood's painting
Arbor Day.
If you don't remember Arbor Day - take a look at the new quarter
dollar for Iowa - the committee wisely chose this image from Wood's
work. (You thought they were going to use American Gothic?)
