A GOOD EXCUSE

Fall seems a funny name
to call a whole season

To me it means the hard work is done
the hay is in the barn
the live stock are done birthing their babies

The nights are longer
so you can get the sleep you missed
in the summer
and being under a cover
sure gives a body comfort

time slows down
and you can untie the knots
and let scars heal up

I'm looking forward to
sitting in the barn
with old Hank and Willie
while the wind is blowing
We'll be by the wood stove

oiling saddles
fixin' harness
We'll relive old adventures
and plan for next spring

I ain't gonna lie
if it gets real cold
we might sip some whiskey

it's as good an excuse as any.
