Tupelo
was his first scene
with slicked back hair and tight blue jeans,
he had the looks that girls adored
ain't seen this kind of cat before
He was all shook up with crazy legs
teenagers screamed and rushed the stage,
with tears they sobbed and pled for more
ain't seen this kind of cat before
From Southern roots, he borrowed blues
black leather jacket, blue suede shoes,
long sideburns and a pompadour
ain't seen this kind of cat before
So poor he couldn't pay the rent
yet for stardom he was damn well bent,
he was a showman to his core
ain't seen this kind of cat before
The Colonel gave him a contract
then he knew there was no goin' back,
said stick with me I'll make you a star
they ain't seen your kind of cat before
To Hollywood he quickly went
his star of fame still on ascent,
pink Cadilllacs, and drugs galore
ain't seen this kind of cat before
Vegas was his final act
drugs caused his fatal heart attack,
he left the building, was no more
ain't seen this kind of cat before
He was the king of rock and roll
his music touched us, heart and soul,
in death his popularity soared
ain't seen this kind of cat no more.
