BACK TO SCHOOL

Two boys
two backpacks
there they go down the sidewalk
going back to school again

the boys
a bit anxious
a little nervous
yet looking forward to a new routine
from a long lazy summer
their friends will be there
and familiar faces
new subjects and new ideas
and of course recess

things to talk about with other kids
comparing notes on
Spider-man
Lego sets
videos
things they saw and did on summer vacation

all packed and ready to go
with the approved supplies
then to find their room
to choose a desk
to reacquaint
hopefully to learn new subjects and new ideas

mom watches them walk away
sadly waves goodbye
the mother as nervous as they
and with a trace of melancholy
a tear in her eye
for they have grown another year
it won't be long before...
