Striking without warning
A Blue Norther comes in mean and hard Barging in like unwanted company
A blue line Defined with clear distinction is drawn across the
darkened sky Behind it is the Norther Barreling down full force, Rattling
windows, Banging screen doors, Breaking things
The sky turns dark
and the temperature drops like a rock, ice is in the air its bite felt
in aching bones
Artic air, packed with nails and needles blasts down
from Canada Picks up steam through Kansas, Oklahoma Jumps the Red River
and keeps coming
It sends hats and umbrellas flying sends daggers through
short sleeves and jeans we brace ourselves, we hold on
What was a nice
sunshiny day Is brushed aside in a moment Replaced by an ugly brute with
a bad disposition
People can’t believe their senses hurry to close
windows, test their heaters, Frightened children run inside to momma
The
wind keeps whistling, screeching like a wicked witch, howling with amusement
wreaking havoc along the way
The Norther’s come in And changed
the season on us It’s gone from summer to winter in ten minutes We never
knew what hit us.
