She
searches for bones of the dead for skeletons of ancient ancestors and
family forebears trying to connect the present with the past
Her
days spent in reams of records, deeds, and census dates searching for clues
that might bind one name to another a person to a family a place to
a beginning or to an end
The hints are ever so subtle secrets bound
up in flowery hard to read script woven as delicate as embroidery deciphered
from yellowed pages buried in basement bins
She studies the fine print
of books and files, rows and columns ever in tedious labor a
passion to solve riddles in her nature a drive to finding the obscure
Down
dead ends and dark alleys she travels alone, unafraid finding pieces one
by one her only light a candle her glimmer of hope
She is the bone
woman digging through hidden history combing through graveyards searching
for her past She is the master of puzzles the seeker of buried bones.
