We grapple with
our aches and pains
to each other
gripe, complain

Compare our notes
from yesterday
which pain appeared
which went away

What happened during
the long night
how did new aches
spring into life

Where do these aches
originate
they come more often
as of late

As harbingers
they stoke our fears
reminders of
advancing years

And isn't age
a bit unfair
when pain is all
we can compare.
