EARTHRISE

Let the earth
take its turn
this time

rising like
the sun
on earth
to trumpet
a new day

a hatch window
frames its blue beauty
as astonished astronauts
look on

anxious to get this moment
recorded
the first time men
have witnessed
this turning of events

through eons
no man had seen it
this rising of the earth
over the plains of the moon

they named it
Earthrise
and so it became
another baby step
for man

who was learning to walk
up the stairway
to the stars.
