FAMILIARITY

We find
familiarity
replaces excitement
the new and different
hold little appeal
the allure of
popularity or celebrity
seems shallow
and in this slower stage of life
there is comfort in routine
the gentleness of the ordinary
becomes a life ring
to which we cling
we keep our heads
above water
we hang on.
