I
used to pick grass
on my side of the fence
the side the horse couldn't get to
the grass that was so green and tender
it excited the horse no end
and I would feed the Palomino
who was starved for something fresh
it pushed against the wire and
its large yellow teeth
scared the daylights out of me
just a small kid
the horse towered over me
and I had to be real careful
or it would take a nip out of me
not knowing which was grass
and which was my hand
kind of like most men
it had an appetite for
what it couldn't get
and once it got some
it wanted more and more
I finally gave up
feeding the horse
learning
you can never satisfy a hungry horse
much less
the desires of men.
