With
fierce determination, he
bashes the ball upon the Tee
then with the coach's shouting plea
runs to first base so happily
Blue ball cap flying, away he storms
donned in his brand new uniform
with a burst of speed the base paths turned
smiling ear to ear, a star is born
What is the draw that makes boys court
the vagaries of such a sport
they say teamwork, things of that sort
but pride runs deeper, I purport
For the rest of his life he will recall
the thrill of hitting his first ball
the sound of hearing loud applause
achievement such a worthy cause
Victory, lies in the mind
it does not take a game to find
still boys will always be enthralled
by the pursuit of cheers and a baseball
And years from
now, he will retrace
the crack of the bat, his new-found grace
those moments kept, forever safe
the day he made it to first base.
