Within
tall grass I heard a cheep
a baby bird there at my feet
so suddenly it had occurred
it startled me more than the bird
Without a peep its silence kept
so quiet I almost stepped on it
from nest it fell and wandered here
but camouflaged it had no fear
it stared at me, just looking up
surprised me by the stance it took
so small it barely left a trace
yet fortunate it was still safe
It took position in these weeds
to avoid the prey who sight unseen
could swoop in if it was revealed
take baby bird as its next meal
I spoke some words to give it cheer
encouraged it to persevere
then left it there, no feather stirred
followed advice to not disturb
Was it fate or coincidence
this little bird turned up by chance
an odd but lucky happenstance
I stumbled on by accident
The baby bird who dared to roam
I hoped would soon return to home
for in the end, it would be best
if baby bird returned to nest
The lesson then, we can discern
is that by taking chances we all learn
life is a challenge, yet when we persist
the experience well worth the risk.
