Poor
mom
pulled 20 different ways
by kids and activities
baths
meals
taxi service
grocery store
laundry
homework
all of these tasks
fill
her days to the brim
she is wound tight at a clock
each hour packed
each day overflowing
with must do things
it leaves her little time
to unwind
to slow down
to catch her breath
yet she accepts these days
for what they are
precious moments
so brief, so fleeting
she knows the painful truth
that the kids will be Little only once
that these furious days need to be cherished
held dear
each
day a step in the lives of her children
the days pass too quickly for her
if only she could make them longer
stretch
them out
she sees daily the amazing growth of her children
wishes she could somehow keep them
as they are now
yet she knows that such wishing is futile
she cannot stop time nor impede its progress
all she can do is build her memories
memories that will help sustain her
into a future time
her lasting souvenirs from
these fast and fleeting days.
