Just Like The Old Man

eatin over the sink
and thinkin of my dad
who always did it
I can remember him so clearly
standin over the sink and
eatin stuff cold out of the fridge
he was the leftover guy
who would always clean out
what nobody else wanted
never let any food go to waste
and now i'm the same way
hate to see anything thrown out
and eat stuff cold
on a piece of bread
and look out the window
as I stand over the sink
just like my old man
and I betcha he's lookin down
smilin
sayin see there
told you it was good
you never would listen
but now you're doin
the same damn thing
and I get the point
no matter how hard we fight
we all turn into our folks
eventually
and do the same things they did
the things we laughed at
the things we said
we'd never do
and now were there
now we're them
and finally we understand.
