The Land Between

A poem
crept into my head,
in that land between
asleep and awake

It occurred to me
while in bed,
an odd spot for a poem
to take place

It repeatedly
played in my head,
kept tossed
in its turbulent wake

The poem was
so beautifully rhymed,
a poem
perfection embraced

Now risen
I cannot retrace,
the poem played
in my somnolent head

And I wonder
why its bitter taste,
its memory
sweeter instead.
