LAST CAR

Looking for a new car
a new used car that is
the wife says
make it a good one
at your age
it's the last car you'll ever buy

I give her a worried look
what did she mean by that?
am I that close?

I have not been to the doctor for years
I have not been hospitalized
so what is she implying
I don't even want to think about it

maybe she's thinking
that the new guy
would like a nice car

I'll just stay over here
and keep quiet

the words
"this may be your last car"
still ringing in my head.
