Leaves

Leaves fall down
from off the tree
then settle in
collectively

Yet when the wind
stirs up the day
the leaves lift off
to get away

How they tumble
down the street
how fast they skip
on leafy feet

They run as if
there is a race
as if they have
to get some place

In their rush
to get away
others like them
join the play

Who knows where they
take final rest
all leaves are gypsies
more or less.
