LIKE TREES

Like trees
young saplings we once were

bending in the wind

growing stronger
then we came to middle age
producing fruit
providing shade
now in the winter of our years
we are weaker and bent
we show our age
in twisted gnarled trunks

yet we celebrate the years we lived
and hope our arms

provided comfort
trees count in rings
we count our blessings.
