LOG

The tree limb lies

sleeping giant
on the winter ground

fracturing
it fell to earth
to keep its wounded place
a jutting tusk of tree

bone
exposed to wind
and rain
turned white with age

years
will pass over it
hardening wood
to stone

leave it to time
the seasons
the centuries

let it be
oh holy relic

let sleeping logs
lie.
