Long Term Effects

He suffers the long term effects
of poetry
it has infected him
driving him to write incessantly
sometimes disturbingly
symptoms come and go illogically
there is no consistent pattern
no sound explanation
it seems worse
in the early morning hours
there is no known cure
all we can do is maintain
try to make him comfortable
who knows
he may outlive it.
