Losing Sight Of Things

It is a blessing
the way life unfolds,
we blissfully lose sight of things
as we grow old

As eyesight grows dimmer
we fumble and fuss
don't want to admit it
refuse to discuss

The one in the mirror
can give us a scare
he looks familiar
just don't know from where

All gray and wrinkled
what a terrible sight
compared to the former
the latter's a fright

If truth were uncovered
then most probably
our losing our vision
occurs deliberately

There must be a purpose
to aging and sight
while one grows on us slowly
the other slowly takes flight

It's rather ironic
that we cannot see
what we have become
from what we used to be

The decline of our fortunes
our senses benumbed
thank goodness we can't see
how old we've become.
