all the bags
& bows
& paper
is the true meaning
of Christmas

somehow lost
in the fury of the day
the mad rush
the pursuit of trivial things

what lies beneath
is the companionship
the caring
the love exchanged

for this be thankful
for this be glad
without this exchange
of giving love
a sadder world would be

and none would know
the warmth within the human heart
